| | | Boletus ID needed. After a long day at Ashridge with David..i just had to stop off and leg it over a garden to get these beauties..
1.Im thinking its a Suede bolete.. these measured nearly 6inches across the cap..the bigger ones where slightly damaged..this was found growing under Beech.
2.A Possible Larch Bolete. 1 1/2 inches across the cap found under a large larch tree.
Many thanx
Julie

| | | Re: Boletus ID needed. Number one isn't a bad call Jules, the dark line below the cap cuticle would aim towards Boletus subtomentosus. I'm not all that sure though as I've not much field experience with many other the more unusual boletes.
Two does look like Suillus grevillei |

Right with the Larch Bolete but the other is Boletus impolitus I think. It should have a smell of iodine especially at the base when cut in half.

Two does look like Suillus grevillei | I'm intrigued to know how you can see 'dark line below the cap cuticle' and come to the conclusion that it's Boletus subtomentosus Nick - the basidiome hasn't been cut or damaged so as to see 'below the cap cuticle' ??
I think Mal might be correct with Boletus impolitus

| | | Re: Boletus ID needed. I thought that 'below the cap cuticle' suggests the dark line upon the pores just under the edge of the cap. Please shed some light
Edit, I see my error now. My conclusion? I'm a divvy |
