Bay Boletus - nibbled by what?

I was at my Bay Boletus patch today and saw quite a few past their best specimens most of which had been nibbled. This got me to thinking about the little beastie that does this nibbling. Could it be a mouse? In which case I know that mice are incontinent. So I guess it stands to reason that these nice edibles have probably been peed on and maybe even pooped on.

I just wondered if there is a viewpoint on this. Firstly does anyone know whether its mice or rats having a chew? Does one avoid chewed specimens or cut the chewed bits out? Or does one just ignore the chewing and consume the whole thing chewed bits and all? Has anyone ever heard of someone getting mouse pee poisoning from such actions?

Surely you would wash picked specimens thoroughly before consumption anyway. I've eaten Boletes with nibbles in with no dire consequences, but I do wash them well.

Not really embarrassing Sarah, you're just lazy I never used to wash them either, but I guess I got a bit more cautious!

I'm having second thoughts about eating them now anyway, so I may refrain in the future. However, I have been known to change my mind so that could all change rather soon me thinks.

I knows you were just kidding mate. Wow two years, thats flown by. Its been really nice to have your support in my mushroom trials and tribulations. Thanks for putting up with me, I know I'm not very consistent in that I'll dissappear for months, I just can't help it, I get despondent and don't contact anyone for months on end sometimes, I'm just one of those weirdos in life i'm afraid. Will always come crawling out of the woodwork eventually though.

Hey maybe we should celebrate the two years... ting is I can't have alcohol at the moment cos had gum infection and horrible tablets where alcohol is a no go. pooh. I'm virtually an alcoholic so its been a real bummer. Only another 48 hours to go before I can have a drinkee, way hay.
