Hole in Fungi stem?
In the photo there is a fairly large hole in the stem that goes all the way through, could anything have ate it's way through??

Perhaps a local slug has just come back from a holiday in the U.S.ofA. and saw a giant Redwood with a road going through the trunk and thought 'we do things smaller over here' and set to work on a Cep. ??
