| | | Re: Who did this? I am reasonably ok with cows and bullocks though I confess to some reluctance where bulls are concerned - particularly the Channel Island varieties! Anyway it wasn't in a cow field and nor wsds it a cow! It was indeed a squirrel which I think was the commonest answer... whether it was "that" squirrel again I can't say. I saw a squirrel heading up a sweet chestnut tree with something white in his mouth and assumed that some miscreant had abandoned a sandwich... so I went to look and was surprised by what I found. I wasn't aware they had such a taste for fungi but in retrospect I should have known better! |

Very good Nick - cowardice - was the pun intentional? You're a sharp lot up there

HI Tracey !!
The answer was given 2 posts ago, it was just a squirrel, the mushroom hunters worst enemy - if you do a survey for fungi in a wood, you are bound to come across the crumbled remains of various fungi at one time or another and it's really frustrating if they are beyond recognition.
On the other hand they can unearth Truffles and take a nibble and leave the rest, but I'd still like to see the little critters rounded up and sent back home.

Neil. | Oops, sorry Neil! Just finished writing out one hundred times 'Must pay more attention'! I didn't know that squirrels were such fungi addicts. Yep, I'm not a massive fan of the greys either, the main reason is that I'm worried about the effects that they are having on our native reds.
Anyway, lesson learnt and I will stop skipping to the last bit of a thread.
