| | | Re: Dicholoma or Amanita? Hi Keen-teen,
I'm interested as to what book you obtained the word 'Dicholoma' from ?
It's just that I'm not familiar with this word/Genus and looking it up in my copy of 'Dictionary of the Fungi' does not help either as it is not mentioned.
It may be possible you are working from and old (foreign ?) book which has been in the family for years.
If you do not have a copy of Roger Phillips or Michael Jordon, buy one soon or go to your local library, but both these books are now becoming out of date as Taxonomy is changing all the time - especially with fungi.

| | | Re: Dicholoma or Amanita? sorry - I have a collins field guide .
I think dicholoma was wrong - I couldn't remember what the mushroom was actually called but it was something similar to dicho-something |

| | | Re: Dicholoma or Amanita? Just a wild guess at what you are thinking, but perhaps Tricholoma terreum - Grey Knight is on the tip of your tongue, even if it may not be the species showing. But it looks a pretty close match to me on the basis of photo comparison only.

They always look big and brightly coloured thus one assumes easy to identify but they never are !!
