ID polypore?

These were found under pine in a small grassy area just a few yards from my house. They feel very spongy and appear polypore-ish. Any ideas?

Hi !

These are the initials (i.e the sterile start of the formation of the fruitbody) of the polypore Phaeolus schweinitzii !

Very common and parasitic on the roots of pines. And very occasionally with other conifers !

Thanks Nick. I thought it might be that but after looking again at the picture in Michael Jordan's Encyclopedia of Mushrooms I wasn't sure they matched. I guess the shape can be quite variable.

Yes I cycled straight past yesterday thinking it was just that.
But decided to have a closer look today.
