PS I would also say that should anyone ever find
'P. cervinus' on conifer wood (logs or stumps etc), especially if the cap is rather dark, then you have to look to see if there are clamp connections in the mycelium at the stipe base, or (but more difficult) in the skin of the cap - if there are then you've got
Pluteus pouzarianus instead !!
Pluteus cervinus has absolutely NO clamp connections ANYWHERE in the fruitbody !
So the microscopy is the only way to distinguish the two species (which are macroscopically almost identical !)
