Hello all, (and now for something slightly different!!)
I'm fairly certain the funghi here will turn out to be Polyporus tuberaster or Stone Funghi as that was what was growing on it previously before the squirrels (I assume) ate it.
I need help identifying the substrate here, (a job for the Special Branch hee hee

), common references has this growing only on deciduous trees, it was found in a mixed wood possibly with some ornamental species, so could be virtually anything, as it came from a heap of collected debris and various logs, and not a tree.
I'm hoping to encourage it to grow on more of the same type of branch, the Polyporus tuberaster turned out to be quite a tasty edible, and is cultivatated for eating in some parts, but info on it's edibilty is scarce and sometimes conflicting, but I'm convinced it's good, and the small sample I had tasted fantastic sautéd.
The log has a reddy tinge.. any ideas or do I need to repost in the tree section of WAB?
I'm photographing it each day so I may be able to piece together an animated video of it growing into adult hood.. my baby
That I will probably eat
