| | Woodland & Dune Mushrooms (ID) Sorry to be a pain but I am really struggling with these fungi IDs.
Dunes:
1) I found this growing on top of old wood on mature sand dunes
2) I found this on the dune slack.
Woodland:
These were in the woodland further from the dunes.
3) It was very soft.
These are the pores:
4) I have no idea what this is but it was growing out of an old tall tree stump. |

Unfortunately you have picked on four difficult things which will be difficult to name from photographs !
1. Is a species of Russula but impossible to say which since we can't see the stipe (stem) or the gills !
2. Is a species of Entoloma in the section Leptonia but this is one of the most difficult of genera in the agarics and almost impossible to name to species with any degree of confidence from a photograph.
3 These two photos are of the basidiome (fruitbody) of a polypore ('bracket' fungus) in the genus Ganoderma - possible Ganoderma australe but impossible to say without microscopy of the spores. Also by the look of it the bracket is immature and that also makes identifcation difficult.
4. Appears to be an old basidiome (fruitbody) of the polypore Laetiporus sulphureus, one of the few fungi with a proper English Name (as opposed to a silly and recently made up one !) viz. 'Chicken of the Woods' - when fresh, it's a brilliant sulphur yellow and saffron colour, and impossible to misidentify - when old the colour fades and it ends up looking like this !
All the best,

They are a large and difficult group to name properly, especially from photographs [I should also point out now that that can also apply to many other genera of fungi, not just Russula's !] and you really need to know the colour of a fresh spore print with Russula's to even start to get anywhere - unfortunately white gills don't always mean white spores (very irritatingly !)

You may well find that Honey Fungus isn't as simple as you think -but don't give up - it all becomes clear in the end (after too many years !) !!
