John | Hi John - very nice !
Looks suspiciously like Leucocoprinus cepistipes to me - a rare naturalised alien (that is increasing apparently !).
I usually find this (in southern England) on hot, fermenting piles of woodchips so a record in habitat other than that would be interesting !
Was it in natural woodland ??

Nick | Hi Nick
Thanks for this. It was found on the edges of Lime tree Avenue where the autumn leaves are piled at various intervals. I would say there were well over 100 fruit bodies on this paticular leaf pile.
It was also my last find before my wife picked me up so I rushed the photography ... and it shows
I did take some back home for drying. Is it worth sending / reporting the find?
Again, many thanks.

John | Yes, it is actually John - just to provide the vouchered record and to verify that I'm not a complete numpty with regards to the diagnosis ! Or otherwise I suppose !
Would be worth saying when you send it that it was NOT on fermenting woodchips but on a pile of leaf litter !

Nick | Hi Nick
Will do, and I'll return hopefully soon to take some better images.
I'm also sure that your diagnosis is anything but numpty

John | I'm suprised if they have dried off that small John - Leucocoprinus cepistipes is usually relatively large ! Maybe it's a good thing that you are going to send them off for a determination, although I have to say they do loook like L. cepistipes from the photo.
Don't forget to mention, when you send these off, the 'laterite' (brick-red) coloured discolouration on the caps and the lower parts of the stipe seen when fresh John - which will probably disappear when you have dried them.

Nick | Thanks Nick.
I've added this information to the description and included several images in support too

| | | Re: Fungi growing on leaf mould at Clumber Park Here are a few images from a visit this evening. There were very few fruit bodies compared with the first visit.
Typical size of mature fb's:
Cap dia 21 mm / 23 mm
Stipe 25mm / 28mm x 2mm
I’ll take a quick look at the spores later.
