| | | Looking for Truffle Hunters.... Hi there,
I was just wondering whether anyone on the forums would be interested in finding out more about getting involved ....
I work for a TV Production Company called Optomen Productions, and we are currently making a new BBC2 Food Series called What to Eat Now, with chef Valentine Warner.
It’s all about seasonal produce, and the journey our Autumn ingredients take from growth throughout the year, to plate.
As part of the series, we are keen to cover wild mushroom foraging, and in particular truffle hunting.
I'm currently looking for uk Truffle enthusiasts, who might be interested in sharing their expertise on truffles with Valentine.
If you'd like to find out more please email sarah.kogan@optomen.com or call 0207 967 1817
Look forward to hearing from some of you hopefully -
Thanks
Sarah

What to Eat Now | Hello Sarah
I can understand your interest in truffle hunting and given the recent media coverage of truffle finds it is obviously still 'hot' news.
However, as djackso pointed out in his reply above you will see that any discussion of truffles in an open forum such as this will be very restricted indeed.
The lack of a single truffle image in the fungi Gallery will give some idea of the secrecy and reluctance to divulge any information.
This 'reluctance to divulge' may well be repeated with morels in a very short time, due to over popularity and total devastation of sites by excessive and careless picking, especially by those supplying to restaurants!
I wish you luck but I wouldn't hold my breath!

| | | Re: Looking for Truffle Hunters.... I wonder whatever happened to that guy who was on "Dragons Den" a couple of years ago who I believe managed to secure investment for cultivating truffles in a piece of woodland. It's far too long ago for my tired and useless brain to recall much more details but maybe the OP would be interested in following it up. If these species can be cultivated then maybe that would save disruption to woodland, etc due to collection for commercial purposes. |

| | | Re: Looking for Truffle Hunters.... I think if these fungis are to be used in restaurants they should be grown in cultivated land where it doesn't affect resident wildlife. There's enough pressure on woodland as it is with development, timber aquisitions etc.
That's my opinion on a subject I don't know too much about anyway |
