Fungus for ID

I found this interesting looking fungus at Monk Coniston in the Lake District in late July. I would love an ID please.

I think your fungus may be Phaeolus schweinitzii ... but it certainly looks odd ... nice though!

Hi Shirley - John is correct - it's a basidiome in the process of forming, of Phaeolus schweinitzii as he has suggested !
