| | | Volvariella bombycina and others Been really busy, but still have to walk the dog, so seen a lot just haven't had time to post. Today I saw a young Volvariella bombycina starting to fruit (second time this season) on the same tree that I have seen it on before. Will try and go back and photograph it as it develops.

In the last couple of weeks there has been a lot of Hydnum repandum in the New Forest. I am surprise no-one else has mentioned it.

Also loads of Chanterelles, some monster examples that are about 10cm across the cap.

| | | Re: Volvariella bombycina and others You lucky dog! I have been searching for V. bombycina for years, and I've only seen it once.
I popped down to the New Forest yesterday, but not much luck. 1 slug eaten Boletus aereus, a small Leccinum crocipodium (or whatever the current name is), some young Hedgehogs and Chanterelles, and a young group of Armillaria tabescens. The highlight was inadvertently startling a Tawny Owl a few feet away, which flew a short distance, and perched again. Oh, and a Redstart.
Don't s'pose you'd let on the location of the V. bombycina? No! I don't blame you. Not sure I would, except to someone I knew. |

| | | Re: Volvariella bombycina and others Leif,
I would be happy to give you the location. From your numerous posts it is obvious that you are not going to cut it from the tree to eat etc, or clear the area of other mushrooms. Actually, there are other interesting fungi near by. I guess I can send you a private message (never tried from here). Alternately I can show you where it is.
I have also found a couple of pictures I took from last year. Will post in a moment. |
