Really strange looking Laccaria Laccata

NOw I know that the shape of these is very variable but these deceivers are wierd! lol! I know that when you keep getting mown over you adapt and a lot of the specimens I find around here are a bit smaller than usual but ......well........SOme of these have about 1cm of stem (the ones with just the cap are pretty much ...just the cap)! The stipes are thick and leterally compressed and very convoluted. Many of them, even though they have a long one, were growing flush up to the ground.

Hi Mina,

If these are Laccaria they could be L. tortilis but I'm far from convinced, and they would have to be growing in very damp soil.

They were growing in rather damp soil. The habitats round here are a bit skewiffy tbh. Things growing where they really shouldn't be. These were growing on grass in mossy patch of clover which would keep the soil moist. The others grow on a very mossy patch too. As I said........very strange looking Laccaria. They do look a bit like L. Tortilis but the size is wrong. The cap on these is a bit over 3cm wide and the stipes on the longer ones are 3 to 4cm long.
