| | Help to Identify Fungi All of these are recent finds from the last week or so, I have my ideas on a few, but I'll keep the descriptions brief, ask questions if you need more info or photos..
No1 a very small mushroom clustered on a stump..
No2..
No3.. No bonus points for ID'ing the rock!! the big one had been kicked over sadly
No4.. This tongue funghi smelt surprisingly mushroomy when cut, I wouldn't be surprised if it was edible..
No5.. Smells like a gas leek!! Brown spore print, cap 50-75mm, slugs love them it appears, woodland edge in areas with no grass.
No6.. My initial thought for this was Coprinus comatus, but the stem looks too fat!!
No7.. A friend's lawn, two species..
Phew I think that's got them all!! |

| | | re: Help to Identify Fungi I'll start the ball rolling with
No1: coprinus disseminatus.
No3: I assume you noticed the two peziza in the photo (need microscope).
and pluteus.
Is the Tounge! species a Xylaria (polymorpha).
No6: Macrolepiota maybe.
Cheers J.P.

Coprinellus disseminatus syn. Coprinus disseminatus
Habitat: On decayed wood of deciduous trees (usually large stumps) often occurring in vast, densely gregarious swarms but may also occur single or in ones and two's.
Notes: Common and widespread. Should be distinguished microscopically from the superficially similar Psathyrella pygmaea which may occur mixed with it. English name = 'Crumble Caps' or 'Fragile Ink Cap'. Ref BC

A juvenile Macrolepiota procera - Parasol (or M. rhacodes - Shaggy Parasol apparently now called Chlorophyllum rhacodes)

| | | re: Help to Identify Fungi Is Coprinus disseminatus quite a variable species? 95 % the Coprinus disseminatus pics that I have seen look different to the shots here. They do not seem to have the darker margin, the cap tends to be more domed, and the fungus has a more delicate, fragile appearance. |

2. Inocybe sp. - immature !
3. Two things here - a Peziza sp. (possibly P. succcosa - try the juice on a white piece of cloth to see if it yellows !) and a Pluteus sp. - one of the numerous 'species' now subsumed into Pluteus plautus by the look of it !
4. Xylaria polymorpha - very immature !
5. Agaricus sp. - if you say smelled of 'gas' possibly immature [i]Agaricus cappellianus[/I (which used to be known as Agaricus vaporarius and is known to smell strongly of 'chicory' !). No guarantees with this one however !
6. Coprinus comatus I think (as you suggested) - just a young basidiome.
7. - Two things here - first two are probably Dermocybe cuneifolium - the last is again Coprinellus disseminatus (but again with the Psathyrella pygmaea comment) - this is probably fruiting from decayed wood under the grass.

| | | re: Help to Identify Fungi 5. Agaricus variegans ???
The cap fits, the smell too (described as strong, unpleasant, radishy), and slightly more common than A.vaporarius.
Was the woodland broad-leaved or coniferous?

Was the woodland broad-leaved or coniferous? | Agaricus variegans is now A. impudicus has been for some time, this Agaricus is definitely not that, as I get it regularly from Hampstead Heath. I have Agaricus vaporarius as A. subperonatus? Which is the most likely candidate here.

But that said, I can't really place it at the moment.
