| | Mini Oysters? This quite small funghi looked particularly interesting for me, taken today in woods in Somerset..
These are a lot smaller than they may appear in the photo, the sample you see in the last three photos is only 20mm across. I'm thinking possibly Panellus stypticus unless it is very small Pleurotus ostreatus but a spore print should sort that out.
Any other commments or nominations/contenders you can think of appreciated. |

appreciated. | How about Crepidotus mollis? Does it have a removable, elastic-like, cap cuticle?

Hi Steve ! Crepidotus mollis if it has a gelatinous pellicle on the pileus (like a rubbery skin that you will see if you pull one of the caps apart !) - the most likely diagnosis !
or Crepidotus applanatus if it hasn't !

| | | Re: Mini Oysters? Well that has certainly opened my eyes to the previously undiscovered world of Oysterlings!! (undiscovered by me that is)
the one sample I took has dried out, without giving out any spores, what is left of the cap does peel but I don't think as it stands it's diagnostic... but from photos it does look very much to be in the style of Crepidotus mollis which seems to have more cap variations than any other funghi in the world!!
I will have to revisit the stump and try the peeling technique and obtain a faster spore print.. thanks for pointing me in the right direction again guys. |
