Coprinus for ID please
Anston Stones Wood 28/29 June 2008

On Saturday morning I found this solitary specimen growing on an v old log at the side of the brook.



A closer inspection revealed a very 'hairy' specimen.



A perusal of the books on Saturday PM suggested it might be a Coprinus sp. So returned early the next morning to check.





It was already collapsed when I arrived.
Can you offer any suggestion as to sp.

I would suggest Coprinus lagopus for this Les. Often found on woodchip / decayed wood.

Probably ! Can't see what else it would be, but C. lagopus is not usually on large woody substrate like this i.e logs - usually on woodchips or small bits of woody debris !

But it does look like it !
