| | Urgent ID required Hi
I'm quite new to this field of fungi identification, and unfortunately have had to join this forum in a bit more of a worried manner than would have hoped for.
I found the fungus in the images near my garden fence in Birmingham on Sat 22 June, and I was concerned at the time as it seemed to be something at a junior stage within a universal veil. I presume it's something from the Amanita family from my limited knowledge.
Fungus found under an unknown semi-dead bush, adjacent to a line of leylandii which I am in the process of cutting down. About the size of a golf ball, protruding from under some rotting wood.
I disposed of it carefully and checked for any more, as I have a young Border Collie puppy who generally views anything as food.
Tonight while my back was turned he'd done a bit of digging near the fence between two leylandii trees, and had unearthed two much smaller specimens of what appears to be the same, about the size of a marble. Again universal veils evident, the hole he'd dug was about 3cm deep.
I am now praying that there weren't any more and that he didn't eat one, so it's going to be an anxious night keeping an eye on him. If anyone can identify these then your help would be much appreciated.
Thanks |

Try messaging any of the fungus experts directly, if you haven't already - mykonik seems very knowledgeable.
Good luck - keep us posted. |

| | | Re: Urgent ID required No need to get all worked up - it's just the 'egg' of a Stinkhorn fungus, so let your dog enjoy it, it's harmless to us so should not harm your dog.

| | Re: Urgent ID required Thanks very much everyone, that's really put my mind at rest!
It would have been nice to try and identify it myself at my leisure, but one's brain doesn't work very rationally in those situations.
Not had the best night's sleep with said Border Collie trying to drag me round the floor in my sleeping bag... not one of the symptoms of mushroom poisoning from what I've been reading!
Glad I've found this forum anyway, just the type of thing I've been looking for... |
