Ganoderma sp for ID please
Sherwood Forest (Birklands) 8 June 2008
Found growing at the base of an ancient Oak tree



Thought it might be Southern Bracket - Ganoderma australe

You may well be right Les, but it could also be Ganoderma applanataum - microscopy needed, and this specimen is immature as evidenced by the (as yet) 'non-poroid' pore surface.
