| | | Another Myxomycetes for ID Sherwood Forest (Holborn Hill Plantation) 1st June 2008
Found Myxomycetes in various stages of growth on a single fallen Beech.
Please excuse poor quality, as lighting was terrible (15sec exposure required).
I assume that these are examples of the same fungi, but in different stages of growth. I would guess that as this is a stalked sporangia, then Stemonitis sp. would be appropriate.
Your comments and observations welcomed
Les

I'd say you're right with the Genus, but that's as far as I would dare go live on air (but just between you and me, that's not that dammed fusca again is it ?
it's so variable !)

| | | Re: Another Myxomycetes for ID You could always try another stalked red species like Arcyria denudata

| | | Re: Another Myxomycetes for ID I hope they get photographed again tommorow, the outcome would be real intersting, at the moment i'm thinking only one of the three is stemonitis, but can learn from being wrong.

| | | Re: Another Myxomycetes for ID Update
I returned to the site yesterday evening (4 June) hoping for more pictures.
Nothing...not a sign that fungi had ever been there.
The slugs in this wood are notorious for getting to the best specimens very early, could it have been them?
Les
