| | | Re: very small cup on beech I could well be wrong but I always associated virgineum with beech mast and smaller plant matter like bramble and that brevipilosum was more to be found on deadwood, which was definitely where we encountered this on Saturday.
But you are right JP we could only be certain with a microscope. |

Jordan makes the distinction between the substrates and ours is much more likely to be L. brevilosum. The pictures in Jordan and the Swiss book of Lachnum virgineum are similar and suggest it is more cup shaped than L. brevilosum. L. brevilosum is not in the Swiss book but pictures on WAB and elsewhere resemble our find much more closely. But, of course, pictures are not diagnostic in themselves.
