My finds today, some id required please

Still no St George for me but I did find these little lot.

The semifree Morel were spotted throughout the walk and the jelly ears seemed to be quite common alongside the cup fungi. Haven't a clue what the other two are though. Would be helpful if I could get positive id's so I can upload the better pics to the gallery.

Hi !

Top to Bottom..................

Auricularia auricula-judae [The Jew's Ear Fungus]

Disciotis venosa - not very common but a spring fruiting species. Very nice photo !

Psathyrella spadiceogrisea - very common at this time of the year.

Lepista nuda [The Blewit] - common and fruits throughout the year !

Nick

Thanks Nick, I thought that was a Blewit but didn't think they appeared until later in the year.

You were right - but they actually fruit all year (even when it's in minus degrees centrigrade I might add !)

As a matter of interest where did you find the Disciotis venosa (for the record !) - it's usually found on calcareous-clayey soils (such as in Surrey where I spent much of my mycologising time !) but is not common or frequent anywhere ! And may be absent from a known site for years then reappear in quantity !

Nick

Re: My finds today, some id required please

I'm on the border of Essex,Herts and Cambs. I've found them in several different spots.
There is lots of clay round here hence the lack of true Morels. It's annoying because there are Ash trees, Bluebells and ivy everywhere.

Don't know why I can't find any St George though.

Re: My finds today, some id required please

I use the skew/stretch function in the paint programme that seems to come with most computers, but i realise many people use special photo programmes.

Cheers J.P.
