| | | What's your most wanted fungi I've mentioned in another thread my desire to find certain species which until now have escaped my attention
Here are my top 5
Verpa conica
Any Birds nest fungi / Cyathus species. My friend Ken Rowland showed me some Cyathus olla he had found .. but it's just not the same Ganoderma lucidum ... Another one that Ken showed me!
Magpie Ink Cap - Coprinus Picaceus
Phallus hadriani
Any others will just be a bonus

| | | Re: What's your most wanted fungi What a great idea for a thread
1. Arhhenia chlorocy.... Oh wait. Done that
2. Fomitopsis pini.... Oh wait, that too (Hopefully to be confirmed )
In all seriousness, my top 5 are;
1. Lyophyllum favrei - Gilded Domecap
2. Amanita pantherina - Panthercap
3. Rhodotus palmatus - Wrinkled Peach
4. Boletus satanus - Satan's Bolete
5. Tuber aestivum - Summer Truffle
This time last year, these would have been on this very list but I crossed them off in the season of '07 and spring '08 Laetiporus sulphureus - Chicken of the Woods (seen just yesterday) Gomphidius roseus - Rosy Spike Cantharellus tubaeformis - Winter Chanterelle
So it's not bad. Would be good to do a thread like this every year and see how people get on |

| | | Re: What's your most wanted fungi It's hard to say because most species can be photogenic and interesting. I'm more interested in good examples of common and less common fungi.
But I suppose if I had to make a wish list, it would have to include 'alien' (in both senses of the word) species such as Clathrus archeri and Clathrus ruber. If any fungus has a wow factor, then those do.
Now that I think about it I would like to make further collections of the following as my existing photos are sub-standard:
Volvariella bombycina
Hygrocybe punicea
Hygrocybe unguinosa (whatever it is now called)
Phaeolepiota aurea
Nick: Panther Caps are quite common in the New Forest. |
