Growing on rotten trunk of beech (Fagus), i'm thinking Pluteus umbrosus but could be wrong. (there was only one so i didn't bring it home).

Yours looks like Pluteus thomsonii which has a strongly veined cap and is often seen on Beech. I'm not aware of any lookalikes. Your specimen has rather a thick stem compared to the Pluteus thomsonii that I have seen though.
Pluteus phlebophorus has a wrinkled cap, but nothing like in your photo. |

| | | Re: Pluteus ! Many thanks, i wasn't sure how it will mature but happy to be in the right area, will hopefully get some pics as it matures so long as the myco munchers don't get it first. (slugs)!
