Hi David,
The turquoise-bluish thing is probably a species of
Trichoderma [a mould] - this is the anamorph (asexual state) of an ascomycete (invariably of a species of
Hypocrea) but the majority of the 'species' in
Trichoderma are not known (or have never been observed) to form the teliomorph (sexual) stage i.e the
Hypocrea except in a very few cases.
I have put the word 'species' in inverted commas since they are given specific names until the sexual stage is found, when they should better be called 'the
Trichoderma state of whatever species they are the precursor to' !
The only other thing that it could possibly be is a species of
Penicillium but those usually have a different bluish colour (often with bluish-green tints). Having said that
Penicillium 'species' are also the asexual stages of (mostly) unknown ascomycetes just like
Trichoderma's !
It should also be noted that there are a few Basidiomycetes (in the corticioid fungi) that have these turquoise or bluish-green or (even rarely pure blue !) basidiomes but they look very different when ones gets used to them - they are all rather rarely seen.
