| | | Lack of Fungi I'm getting pretty jealous of all your finds out in the field.
All I've managed to see thus far are some of last years polypores and assorted inedible brackets, jew ear (yum), and scarlett elf cap.
Please, can you not find anything for a while? Scotland's too cold |

(... although secretly I'm hoping that I'll be proved wrong, bearing in mind I've been stuck inside with a broken leg for 2 months and this coming weekend will be my first proper outing this year.. )

| | | Re: Lack of Fungi excoriate: Being in Scotland your seasons will be behind ours, at least in Spring. I'm sure the Haggis are still in their Winter coats, and will not moult for a few more weeks. You will also have a different flora, both plants and fungi. That is in part due to the different climate, and in part due to the different soil, and trees i.e. mainly Pines.
I will also add that there is not much about down here. I have had to do an awful lot of walking to find Morchella and Paxina species. So don't think we can't walk without tripping over mushrooms. That said, some areas are better than others. So with luck you might find a nice area. I would try Caledonian forests if you live near. I'm sure there's some beauties waiting to be found. |
