Pont Robert, Wales (4 April 2008)
Fond several specimen, growing sepatately, on horse dung heap.   
Cap dia 50mm height 40mm
Stem 110 x 8mm
Smell mushroomy
Gills not brittle
Spores black
Root appears to be bulbous
Older specimen has wrinkled cap

It is Panaeolus, judging by the black spores and mottled gills.
The shiny cap cuticle looks a lot like that of Panaeolus semiovatus, although this species should have a ring on the stem and I can't see any sign of a ring on the specimens in the photo.
Did you notice any remnants of a ring?

errrr......................whats that (broken one) hanging from the stipe of the specimen on the left hand side Ken ?? 
Looks like Panaeolus semiovatus to me

The specimen photographed on its side doesn't seem to have a noticeable ring, but it may well have been lost.

Have now managed to transfer images from the laptop to the PC. 
I hope this confirms the ring remnants, Ken  Panaeolus semiovatus it is then?
