| | | Fungi ID Came across this bracket fungi today whilst out birding. Can't give any details as it was growing in a fenced off swampy area. Anyone like to have a go at an ID.

| | | Re: Fungi ID I think I can safely suggest Daedaleopis confragosa without fear of contradiction, since you chickened out of wading in!

| | | Re: Fungi ID Hi Gerry, what a pleasure to see you in the Fungi forum again mate. Hope you're doing alright. As for the bracket, could it be Trametes gibbosa? We saw some yesterday and they were very similar.

We saw loads of Daedaleopsis confragosa too, but none were as washed out as that The Trametes gibbosa we saw yesterday also had Algae growing on them |

| | | Re: Fungi ID For me the jizz isn't quite right for Trametes gibbosa. As Nick says, there is no algal growth and the brackets seem relatively thin without the distinctive lumpy appearance on top. There is also a hint of banding on the upper surface, which often appears on brackets of Daedaleopsis confragosa.
I find that Daedaleopsis confragosa can be quite pale in colour when the brackets are young and they progressively darken with age, often turning that distinctive red colour.
... but without a shot of the pores we will never be quite sure.

(Remember the very pale one with darker pores I was carrying for a while Nick?)

P.S. I see that Myonik has commented on the image also.

Ken | Ah but are you sure you don't want a second opinion or another specimen at a later development stage to confirm it?

| | | Re: Fungi ID Well thanks to you all, a bit rusty on the fungi these days. My gut feeling was that it was Blushing Bracket - Daedaleopsis confragosa but did'nt have my waders and wire cutters with me on this outing so not able to check the underside.
