| | | Re: WAB Clumber Fungi Foray 2008 Just to let everyone know that I won't now be able to make the WAB Clumber Foray, just in case anyone might have been on the lookout for me. Going to be busy with other things I fear.
I've also noticed simmering tensions in the fungi forum recently, brought to a head by Leif's misinterpretation of a comment of mine which was in no way intended to be a personal put down, but that's just a symptom of a wider issue.
Quite frankly I don't have the time or the patience to be contributing to a forum in these circumstances. So I'll say my farewells here to all you friends I never did meet.
It's been an experience and I hope you have many more fungi seasons of pleasure from WAB. All the best.

Ken | I'm so sorry to hear this Ken. Please have a re-think.
Your input along with others has had such an impact on the forum. I'm sure whatever has been said can be resolved.
Best Wishes - John |

| | | Re: WAB Clumber Fungi Foray 2008 That is very sad news indeed especially as it seems that a member who didn't give two hoots for the site as a reference vehicle has apparently driven off one of the most ardent contributors who constantly provided invaluable feedback. So sorry to see you go Ken.
All the very best in your endeavours

| | | Re: WAB Clumber Fungi Foray 2008 Somehow I have managed to completely miss this thread! (About two thirds of the posts happened while I was on holiday so I have a small excuse).
I know next to nothing about fungi so if you can put up with me saying "what's this?" every thirty seconds or so I'd love to come along too.
As the base camp is not available I'll probably do my usual kip-in-the-car routine. Shouldn't be too cold by then.
Pauline, you'll be pleased to hear that although I don't particularly enjoy eating mushrooms I am not phobic. No wet flannels or firm slaps required this time!
Ken, I'm really sorry to hear about your decision. Although I've never been a regular contributor to the fungi forum you have helped me out with quite a few ID's in the past and I will miss your expertise so generously shared.

Dave P. | There's other accommodation quite nearby if it gets too cold Dave ... See Vicky's thread.
pm me your email address and I'll send you the maps / itinerary.
Don't worry about asking questions every thirty seconds. That's a long gap between fungi at Clumber

Ken | Oh Ken - NOOOOOOOOOOO - if there was a 'tears' smiley (now thats an incongruous couple of words together!) I'd be using it now ..........
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Ken - please don't go - I don't know whats happened (I never do know - you'd think I never spent time on here the way I miss things) but whatever it is you shouldn't allow it to drive you off - you have the right to be here - and I expect you to be here - NOW pick up yer ball and get back in here licketyspit
I've had a couple of run-ins over the last couple of years: folk disagreeing or plainly telling me I'm wrong - SFINE by me - cos there are two things I'm sure of - one is I am entitled to my opinion - as its my opinion it isn't wrong for me and therefore I have the right to voice it and two no-one is going to drive me off this site - I can't be insulted I have a thick skin - I can get annoyed and no-one in their right mind would get within range when I'm angry (my colleagues will tell you this ). Since I turned 50 I don't get that angry very much - but the words heat, kitchen and get out spring to mind if folks don't like me for what I am and the opinions I hold - which equally I won't shove down anyones throat unless someone steps on my toes - but leave I won't - I'd have to be barred
Please reconsider - your friends are missing you - and if you have enemies they should be ignored..........
Pauline

| | | Re: WAB Clumber Fungi Foray 2008 I will honestly and sincerely miss Ken. His help combined with a barbed wit was instrumental in hooking me onto the fungi forum. Its the only forum here which keeps me sane. I hope you will reconsider Ken. (As Pauline, I don`t know what went on either).

| | | Re: WAB Clumber Fungi Foray 2008 I'm afraid we have lost Ken: he would have disappeared from wab mostly this autumn with his forthcoming change of career and resultant lack of time to contribute and I wish him well in the completely new direction his life is about to take. His amazing ability to learn and store facts will be of enormous value and I expect he will cake-walk the degree side of things (tho he might not see it that way but I have faith - I've watched this man in action and under pressure and he's diamond weight!)
But that isn't the point - is it? The fact is he has gone prematurely because of tension and misunderstanding is sad and should be a wake-up call to the rest of us remaining......... I've seen websites fall about before when folks take umbridge and sides and fall out and eventually it destroys the site. Hopefully there are enough of us here to keep level heads and not allow this to happen.
I would like to suggest that we all have a think about our posts and our replies - does any of us seriously think that others are out to get us, to do us down? Should we get upset when we name something wrong and have it pointed out to us - this is not school - it isn't compulsary - we are all here because its enjoyable and we learn such a lot from each other and most importantly are inspired by others photographs to emulate and reach our own heights of creation.........
We shouldn't need to tread on eg-shells when replying to someone - but its a human courtesy if we do on occasion tread lightly to save face for another contributer but it should be accepted as a given that offence is never intended in the first instance. Unless someone is directly offensive (as has recently taken place with Graham and in which case I still say red card - poof - and gone!) then I think we should all keep a calm and steady outlook - folks have off days, subjects they are passionate about, all sorts of reasons for a seemingly 'off' response - that shouldn't have the person receiving it on the ceiling immediately - pause is my motto - and wonder what it is wrong with the sender. If we are all going to grab our spears and rush to attack when we perceive we are under attack - then we are back in prehistoric times and have progressed nothing and this website will burn as a result.....
Remember when someone disagrees with you it doesn't make them or you wrong - it means you simply don't see a subject the same way and cannot find a way to agree - the answer isn't to fight - the answer is to find a way around the problem or just agree to disagree if no compromise is possible

| | | Re: WAB Clumber Fungi Foray 2008 Thanks Richard and DaveP I'm just trying to hold the subject steady......... Judging by the lack of further response it would seem the heat has gone out of this - maybe we can get back to the original thread - Clumber meet? Or is there nothing new to add - just waiting for it to come around
