Re: WAB Clumber Fungi Foray 2008

Hi Pauline

I was so looking forward to meeting you, as one of my favorite WAB contributors, and I was not in any way disappointed.

I have not even down loaded my pics as yet. Too tired on Sunday, and Monday evening was at my local dog club, where Jess won the advanced obedience class competion (again ).

Hopefully tonight I can have a look see.

Les

Re: WAB Clumber Fungi Foray 2008

Did we ever get a positive id for these two?

Any chance this one could be yellow stqagshorn - Calocera viscosa?

And how about golden spindles - Clavulinopsis fusiformis for this one?

Hi Dave,

I am not sure but I think that both are incorrect.

I *think* the first is Clavulinopsis corniculata and the second Clavulinopsis helvola but I find these difficult in the hand and microscope let alone from pics.

John and I were discussing the possibility of the spindles being Clavulinopsis luteoalba. I don't know what distinguishes the two to be honest. Macroscopically, there is a slight difference in that the tips of Clavulinopsis luteoalba are blunt and tend to darken off to a more 'golden' colour whereas Clavulinopsis helvola has tips that taper up to a much sharper point.

Yes, the second image is likely to be Clavulinopsis luteoalba if found in the meadow area. Although I will check both with Ken when I see him later this month.

Re: WAB Clumber Fungi Foray 2008

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about last weekend but the icing on the cake for me was seeing Fly Agaric in a more or less pristine condition...

Such a beautiful fungus but I normally only find the remains of them after some kids have kicked them all round the woods!

Re: WAB Clumber Fungi Foray 2008

Note how robust our Clumber Fly Agarics are ... If you kick them over they just bounce back for more

Well captured Dave. I'm so pleased they put the icing on the cake

Re: WAB Clumber Fungi Foray 2008

Here are a few images of the WAB team in Action at Clumber Park:

Nick searching out club fungi

Dave feeding the Hens

Richard with the Waxcaps

Its curtains for Neil

Vicky planting Fly Agarics for Dave to find

Posch gives a lecture on leaf galls and sends Ian into a trance

Les and the very rare Jenny hiding behind the Beech

And Pauline getting down to a Orange Birch Bolete

Oh it was so much fun

Our friend Alan sent me this:

BBC NEWS | UK | New fungi species unearthed in UK

There was a report on Radio Lincolnshire this morning also.

Well that is good news! You were a bit short of species in Clumber, I felt, so a couple of extra ones will come in handy!
