| | Query? Hi guys,
I was over at my local patch at Fowlmead, came accross two fungi on a cut log, looked like Blushing Bracket - Daedaleopsis confragosa , one of them I thought was upside down cause I could what I thought was the underside,
Now, could it have been that the upper layer of the fungus had decayed to leave the spores visible?, the bracket was still firmly fixed to the log, the other one still had it's skin on,
will do another thread with pics (still in camera) got to go , wer'e baby sitting our grandson to-night,

Duncan | What quite often happens is that a bracket grows and then the log or branch is rolled over and the bracket becomes useless for spore production. So the fungus produces new brackets, leaving the earlier ones looking out of place and upside down.
Perennial brackets may correct for movement in the substrate with regrowth, but in my experience species producing annual brackets will often just grow new brackets.
