| | Re: The Morel season may be here after 12 years of fruitless searching, last night I FINALLY FOUND MY FIRST MORELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trouble is me camera is boooogered! I am 95% sure they are m.elata, the base of the stem is fairly fat at the base and connected to the bottom of the cap, the cap itself is dark grey and is an irregular honeycomb, which steered me away from the possibility of V.conica. They (well, all 2!) smell LOVELY, and I am just taking a spore print to confirm. I found them up here in Cumbria in ash/hazel woods with moss, ransoms, wood violet, wood anenome and dogs wood mercury predominating on the ground. The first was a bit slug eaten, but none the less the cause for some loud whoop de doops. The second was about 30 yards up-wind of it and in PERFECT condition. I looked for another 30 mins, but soon lost the light. The search continues tonight............................ |

Leif, I plan to revisit the North Downs way soon. Should I be looking out in any particular areas? Perhaps the chalk woodlands? | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
