| | | 'Shrooms at Pamber Forest! Good evening fellow fungi enthusiasts
A short thread to tell you all about our day at the wonderful Pamber Forest, Hampshire. David and I set off nice and early this morning, got a little bit lost, ended up at Sainsburys and then when we found the correct car park, we found J.P waiting, adorning the notorious fluorescent jacket that I'm sure he wears so we don't lose him! Upon reaching the forest, we also met for the first time, Garry, known on WAB as fungi2bwith We had a nice slow stroll through the woods turning logs over, getting excited at various weird looking crusty things We found a few little things...the usual Trametes and Daldinia
THEN
We found the Scarlet Elfcup that I was hoping to see! We didn't just find a little bit either, we found tons of the stuff. Huge ones, tiny ones!!! It was amazing Made my day
We also had the pleasure of witnessing an Adder on the heathland, slithering through the heather and the gorse. David got to see two Ask him nicely to upload the cracking pic he took
All in all a nice day to be out in the woods with some pals and a pleasure to meet another member of WAB, Garry and as always, a pleasure to be back in company with the Hampshire/Surrey fungi lads!

Just keep reminding yourself of thoughts of meeting me in Autumn- a professional Mycologist who even makes Kibby and Henrici look like amateurs.
Garry, was a sincere pleasure to rendezvous with you. Good to see you got a nice photo of the Scarlets!

Nick | Yep, glad Gary made it (and enjoyed), within a couple of months things should get really interesting. I liked the mazegills, never seen them all round a stump like that before. (and the adder).
I should mention Nick that if you wish to emulate mr Kibby, you will need to practice nibbling fungi, i kid you not he does a lot of it (very expertly).
please may i assure you the hi viz coat is just a freebie that keeps the wind out and i shall be glad soon to not feel any need of it, though you may complain then as not needing the coat means it's time to take the butterfly net with me .
Cheers J.P. |

I forgot to photograph the Mazegills. Just glad David did, and he sure did it well. Cracking photo.

Nick | Another good day out, and two firsts for me captured on camera (without the aid of the reflector that is John 'Joseph' Parsons and his amazing technicoloured dream coat):
The sleeping Adder that Chaka found but wisely kept his distance (just a good job it didn't move while he was eyeing it up methinks!)
and Daedalea quernica - Oak Mazegill
Meeting Garry, aka Fungi2bwith, was also a first but not, I hasten to add, captured on camera (unless of course Nick was shooting a few candids?)
Can anyone shed any light on the probable cause of the infestation of the pores of this Phellinus igniarius - Willow Bracket:
My next outing is the ABFG AGM at Cricket St Thomas this weekend and I''m particularly looking forward to the Microscopy Workshop.
Cheers
David
