| | | Panaeolus/Panaeolina - Help me please! I am getting my self into a right old b*****'s muddle on the WAB A to Z listing and having enormous difficulty telling my Panaeolus from my Panaeolina, with or without var. complications.
Before expending any further time and effort recording details I would appreciate somebody having a quick butchers at http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/li..._fungi?apage=P
and, where possible, seeing if they can clear the fog a little bit by matching images to current names.
TIA, or is it an LBJ too far?
David

The only species in Panaeolina is foenisecii This changed from Panaeolus f.
Therefore Panaeolina rickenii should be labeled Panaeolus r.

Mal | That's a good start thanks Mal, and one for M. Jordan's amendment list in preparation for his next edition . As oft times prompted by Ken I must get into the habit of sounding out the BC checklist*.
Cheers
David
*P.S. I just did and it's not listed.........but Panaeolus acuminatus is.....Bingo!

| | | Re: Panaeolus/Panaeolina - Help me please! As you've done all the hard detective work yourself of sorting out the right names, it seems a shame to throw a spanner in the works.
The photo labelled as Panaeolus rickenii/acuminatus shows a species with a rust-coloured cap and rust-coloured gills. To me the jizz strongly suggests Conocybe rather than Panaeolus. Certainly the gills on the specimens in this photo show no sign of the very darks spores that ought to be visible on the gills in the form of a mottled effect.
I think you will need another photo for this species if we are to give a more representative image.

Ken | No problem Ken, I can take the rough with the smooth; I shall have to look for a replacement image in the Gallery. One down 4 to go! .....and judging by the BC check list not quite so cool Or (wishful thinking) is Ken inferring the rest are correct ?

Ken | It is very common in the New Forest on cow and horse poop. I assumed it was a Conocybe, but I got no further. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
