| | | Unknown Clumber Park Fungi What can be better on a mild Sunday afternoon, which seemed more like spring than winter, than going over to Clumber Park to partake in a foray with the man who know the fungi there like the back of his hand FungiJohn
It turned out to be an excellent afternoon with quite a few fungi spotted but being a complete beginner I had no idea what most of them were so here are 4 which I have taken pictures of but cannot identify (told you I'd have forgotten the names by the time I got home John )
This one was one of the last we found growing on a log and to me looks like a mini stinkhorn
This one was found by Nettle Runner and I think John did identify it but I'm afraid I have completely forgotten what it was
This one was found by John as he was sitting down to have his coffee
This one was also found by John and he was more interested in the black fungi rather than the white one but again I cannot remember why
So if someone fancies putting a name to them before John gets here feel free |

| | | Re: Unknown Clumber Park Fungi It was an excellent day Dave We must have a day at Longshaw ... it's even better for fungi
1 and 3 are both Coprinus micaceus
2 Kretzschmaria or = Ustulina deusta
4 Lachnum brevipilosum and the interesting yet common black ..blue grey one is … I think ... mollisia cinerea. These two are quite often seen together.

| | | Re: Unknown Clumber Park Fungi Thanks for refreshing my memory John, although it was a bit disappointing to find out that what i thought were 3 different fungi were actually just different stages of the same one
Maybe they could be of some use in the fungi reference
I've had a quick look in the fungi Gallery and cannot find any pictures of mollisia cinerea could this be a first for WAB???
And Longshaw sounds like a good idea if only we could get rid of the wind and rain and have a day like Sunday |

| | | Re: Unknown Clumber Park Fungi No problem Dave
Images at different stages are always useful. Although I must add that many species are almost impossible to ID when very young.
I'm hoping Ken will look at the possible mollisia cinerea ... It may be totally wrong as this species is usually much more a pale grey colour ... I think
Don't worry about the weather at Longshaw I'll book a good day |

| | | Re: Unknown Clumber Park Fungi Don't be too upset. I think that the photo is slightly underexposed. If it is adjusted to make the lachnum the bright white it is normally the Mollisia becomes the grey that John would prefer

Hope I caught you before the edit

| | | Re: Unknown Clumber Park Fungi Sorry John. Without microscopic information I can't add much to what you have already said.
As you say, Mollisia cinerea is often a paler grey on the disc, but it could just be the conditions, and the apothecia in the photo are probably within the colour range for this species, particularly if they were somewhat paler in real life as Mal suggests. Pyrenopeziza is a genus of small, blackish Mollisia-like fungi but the habitat and overall jizz rule out the species I am aware of.
So that just takes me back to Mollisia, as you have already proposed.
Ken
