Trying to help

Spending a lot of time here this week - have read (tho maybe feel wary about messing with website!) re setting up of reference sections. Have looked at A to Z of fungi - found some of my own pics in there and tried to flesh out details and its spit its dummy out ...........

Would someone like to tell me word for word how I should access to add info to sps? then I can at least start to help with my own pics?

I have been doing some updating too Pauline. Stu has set up speedy edit pages for data such as sizes for 25 entries at a time, and it is also possible to edit each particular species through the edit tab with such information as Description, Distribution and Habitat.

Edit to say - I believe there is a glitch which causes a time out if you spend too long editing.

Ah that will be it then - I spent too long consulting my book and typing - so I've got to be quicker!! Or edit in bursts!

Try not to consult too many books, they seem to contradict each other too often.

If "timing out" is a problem, could n't you assemble each bit of info in Notepad, then just copy & paste into the A-Z ?

Thanks tormentil - its worth a try tho when you're filling little seperate fields in like this it will probably be easier to send info in bursts. What about if everyone took at least responisbility for their own pics then the reference would be growing nicely, wouldn't it? As it is a cracking idea and a fantastic resource esp for folks who haven't bought fungi ID books yet....... well done WAB

Funny but true ...

My experience is that you have to consult the specialist literature if possible. Unfortunately that usually means expense, as books tend to cover only one or two genera, though some lucky people might have access to an academic library. I suppose if you live near a copyright library (Cambridge has one) ...
