Oyster Mushroom confirmation please.

Hi All, just need to know if this is a Oyster Mushroom. Found it in the fork of a Beech tree. It's not a very good specimen, but hopefully still identifiable. Thanks!

Most definatly Pleurotus ostreatus the Oyster mushroom, you lucky so and so

It looks in OK condition to me.

Thanks Chazzpott. They were in good condition, but I thought it might be hard to ID from the top photo. It's just a shame there weren't more of them. Still they are the first ones I've found so I'm very happy.

Yep - found some by us the other day, as well. The biggest one is (was - yum!) about 24 cm across, which I was quite impressed by.

Does this ever grow on the ground? A month or so ago I had a large clump of something looking like this growing on a very old mound of leaf compost. Next year, I'll check more closely, but I did wonder.

Although it is usually found on wood I know it can grow on wood shavings or wood chip but as far as I know this species should not grow on leaf mulch.
