| | | Bracket Fungi. Unknown. Last October I was on holiday in St Blazey, Cornwall and visited the Tywardreath Marsh Nature Reserve. It is a Cornwall Wildlife Trust reserve and is predominantly Grey Willow. A very fascinating place and my wife and I had an excellent day exploring.
I came across this Bracket Fungi which I have been unable to identify. I initially thought it might be a Phellinus igniarius but the top is lighter and smoother than the example in my guide.
Can someone help me out and identify it for me.
Regards,
Harold |

| | | Re: Bracket Fungi. Unknown. Since I made the posting I have had 47 views of my email with no response as to what the fungus is.
Is there anyone out there who could identify it for me? I really would like to put a name to it.
I would appreciate it very much if some one could give some idea as to what its name is.
Looking forward to hearing from someone!
Regards,
Harold. |

| | | Re: Bracket Fungi. Unknown. Phellinus ignarius, has a rather dark top surface and rusty brown pores, unlike your specimen, although Willow would be a suitable host.
The only guess I can come up with is Daedaleopsis confragosa, but I am far from convinced as the pores look too fine. |

It is not a birch polypore (Piptoporus betulinus) that has a much more rounded look to it and has a light grey top rather than this reddish brown. Unfortunately I still cannot come up with a suggestion as to what it might be
