| | | Fungi from Moore Nature Reserve I took these photos in July 2007 during a visit to Moore Nature Reserve near Warrington. I hope someone can provide IDs.
Thanks, John. |

| | | Re: Fungi from Moore Nature Reserve No problem fishhead. Thanks for the nice comment. Photos can be appreciated even without an ID but I think it means so much more if a species can be identified. Then you can enjoy the photo and know what it is.
Keep well and enjoy WAB.

| | | Re: Fungi from Moore Nature Reserve Purely on a visual comparison I would hazard a guess at Lachnellula subtilissima, but what beautiful cluster suberbly captured.
Second one possibly Hypoxylon howeanum.

| | | Re: Fungi from Moore Nature Reserve The first is actually a lichen, Xanthoria parietina, which is part fungus (an ascomycete) and part alga, so it does produce apothecia - the fertile structures that produce the asci which contain the ascospores. Hence the potential confusion with non-lichenised fungi.
The second is a Hypoxylon but it would help to know what it was growing on. Hypoxylon fuscum is very common on hazel and alder and I have found it growing this year at Moore Nature Reserve.
