| | | Cauliflower Fungi These were so small and numerous on a pile of woodchip in Hawley Wood, Hants, that I am at a loss to name them: |

| | | Re: Cauliflowers?????? When was the photo taken? They are not Helvella crispa, and look rather like a Morchella species. However, assuming the photo was recent, that probably rules out a Morchella. And anyway the stem texture and cap form look wrong.
I note that in one example to the right we can see what looks like a cuticle, suggesting that they are agarics with upturned caps, and distorted gills. It might be that the gill form is typical, or for some reason the fungus has gone awry, perhaps due to an infection. In one edition of Field Mycology, they showed an agaric with pores in place of gills, caused by some deformity, possibly an infection. So I think they are agarics. As to the species, or even the genus, I do not have a clue. |

| | | Re: Cauliflowers?????? It certainly is a poser - the pic was taken yesterday. There were Coprinus sp. all over the same pile of woodchip which I'm pretty sure was conifer.

| | | Re: Cauliflower Fungi With a clue from Leif and the invaluable help of my good buddy young Nick Cantle I may have tracked down a possible ID for these:
Twisted Deceiver - Laccaria tortilis.
Thanks Nick, I owe you one!
