Question Fungus ID please ...


I've found this fungus today [april 23rd 2006] in my garden.
I live in the Netherlands, but I hope 'you Brits' are willing and able to assist me ...
It's about 10cm high. The pictures are almost real size.

This is not actually a fungus, but instead the cone of a Horsetail (Equisetum). A stem with whorls of green leaves will appear later in the year.

TNX, Tiggrx !

I thought it was a fungus because of the "sporophyte (diploid) phase that produces haploid spores by meiosis" ... (Wikipedia on 'fern') That reminded me of a mature mushroom.

Yes it is a Horsetail, they have started coming up in my garden and now I cant get rid of them paul
