Help to identify tall, white capped, pink stemmed fungi

There were about 8 of these "very neat and tidy" fungi under a large oak tree (although not close to trunk). They were all clean and soldier like except the one I picked in order to get a photograph of the gills (that had damage on one side of the cap).

Once again I expected to id this one with no trouble but was unsuccessful with both Jordan and Phillips. Why does it have to be so difficult! Hopefully with experience....

Anyway help with identification much appreciated.

Your problem might be that you have an immature specimen. In fact the cap will develop into a large funnel and the species is Clitocybe geotropa, a fairly frequent find. The little umbo at the centre of the cap is typical.

Thanks Leif - Well I'd never have got it without your help as I'd assumed that my photos were of mature specimens. Have now Googled C. geotropa and can see exactly what you mean. I'll keep an eye on this group and if possible get a photo of a mature head.

Chances are high that it is Geotropa. Would be great as you say, to follow it up and report back.
