Weird tiny red stuff, fungi or slime mould?

I found this on a rotting fallen tree (which has quite a variety of fungus growing on it!) I can't find anything which looks like this in my books so wondered if it might be a Slime Mould?

Any help appreciated!

I think it is a Slime Mould. Lord knows which ... My books do not cover them, apart from a few in Jordan.

Sorry - silly question alert! What is the difference between Slime Mould and fungi? I have seen it mentioned a few times on threads but haven't been a regular on the fungi forum until recently and I don't really understand.

Tom Volk has a go at explaining the difference here;

Fuligo septica, the dog vomit slime mold, Tom Volk's Fungus of the Month for June 1999

Trichia botrytis in 'Jordan' looks close.

Re: Weird tiny red stuff, fungi or slime mould?

Thanks for that! Is Jordan worth getting for the slime moulds coverage or do you know of any better books on that specific subject?

I also found this one today in a similar location, I'm assuming this is another SM of some sort?

Any help appreciated!

Hi Lauriek.

It does look like another Slime Mould.

Jordan has a grand total of 8 Slime Moulds in his book, but they seem to be the common ones.

Hi Goosey, I love your website. It looks like you've got a very busy garden. I whiled away some time on this rainy day looking at your lovely pics and particularly like the cheeky mouse on the peanut feeder!
