Unknown Boletus

Hi All

Would appreciate some help with this one found in the New Forest earlier in the week.
Growing with mainly Oak and Beech with the odd Birch here and there.

Cap dia. 5cm
Stem ht.8cm
Stem dia.2cm
No colour change.

Try Brown birch boletus very tree specific although enjoys mixed woodland so long as Birch canopy in eyeshot.
Ignore what folks say regards edibility it is good to eat using good technique and imagination. Pores can be removed when brown and soggy leaving firm flesh.

I agree. There are various closely related species, but this looks like the classic Brown Birch Bolete.

I had my suspicions that it might be Leccinum scabrum, nice to have confirmation. Funny how fungi turn up where you least expect to find them.

I found one myself in the New Forest last weekend also! (was it the SAME one I wonder)!
