| | | ID - Help required to identify dark, shaggy fungus I took these pics this afternoon at Salcey Forest. This group was growing from the end of a large broadleaf log.
I've checked my fungi books (Michael Jordan's Fungi and Roger Phillips' Mushrooms) and the nearest I can find is Pholiota squarrosa however these are much smaller than my earlier posting (identified as P. squarrosa by Leif). I would estimate the largest cap in this group to be approx. 5cm compared to perhaps 10 - 12 cm in my earlier posting.
Input much appreciated.

| | | Re: ID - Help required to identify dark, shaggy fungus Thanks everybody for confirming the identity of these pics.
I'm new to photographing fungi (this year) and appreciate your reassurance that I'm on the right track. To be honest I'm finding it quite tough going identifying many of my pics from photos in my books - but it's enjoyable and I'm getting more confident all the time.
