Hello, a couple of unidentified fungi from a newbie.

I was collecting field mushrooms with my son (they, and chanterelles, are about the only ones I can positively identify) and we walked back through some woodland when we came across a lot of what I think may be some kind of honey fungus.



Would be glad if anyone could confirm/deny this! The woodland was mainly birch, with quite a lot of dead/dying trees. The flesh is white and a nibble revealed a peppery taste, taking several seconds to manifest itself properly. Does anyone know if they are edible, & how to prepare them if they are?



This is one from a large group of mushrooms growing around a dying birch tree, it's about 2" diameter with yellow flesh, and smells quite pleasant, almost sweet. My books aren't good enough to give me any idea at all what it could be. Any ideas gratefully received!
