Prickly White Fungi ID

[Scarlet Pimpernel]

Found this on my walk around Arlington Reservoir in East Sussex....any ideas? It was very distinctive but I am still waiting for my Fungi book to arrive!

I think it's Pestle puffball (Calvatia excipuliformis)...

Hi Scarlet

just noticed your fairly old post - as i am trying to boost my mushroom knowledge - and this site is great isn't it!

I Noticed you had found these round near Arlington Reservoir. Have you also explored Abbots woods - I went there last weekend and found lots of Boletes, Shaggy Parasols - well and basically lots of other species I had not seen on the South Downs on my usual walks.

I have thought of setting up a local group on the WAB site - for the East Sussex area so that like minded individuals could share thier knoeledge without having to pay for expensive organised forages.

Let me know if you fancy meeting up anytime to expore the woods together.
