Inside of a Stump Puffball?

Hi all.

I was wondering what the inside of a Stump Puffball are supposed to look like?

They feel all soft and spongy. I opened one today and inside it was all fur like, like it has yellowish cotton wool inside it, kind of like felt. Is this normal because it says these are edible, but the insides did not look to appetizing?

Many puffballs are edible, including the Stump Puffball, [i]Lycoperdon pyriforme.[i] They are, however, only edible when the flesh is firm and pure white throughout. Happy foraging.
