These two lovely specimens of Russula were amongst the interesting haul Nick Cantle and I discovered on a foray today in Surrey:

May never pin them down but with hues like these who cares

Amongst the other finds were 4 firsts for me, most of which I am greatly indebted to Nick for spotting:

Rosy Spike - Gomphidius roseus
Stagshorn - Xylaria hypoxylon
Plums and Custard - Tricholomopsis rutilans
Sprucecone Cap - Strobilurus esculentus

It was a good day for us even if FungiJohn did beat us to the punch with his Clumber ceps.

Now that's a first for me! A truly great day. Rest assured that I will upload the images from the trip and pop them on here tomorrow if I get the time. It was an excellent day and proved to us both that Autumn is in full swing! Edulis remains evasive though...

EDIT: I think there's been a mix up! Stagshorn is Calocera Viscosa.. I think Xylaria Hypoxylon is Candle snuff
