Re: Improving our Fungi Resource Centre

For someone like me who is just casually interested in fungi, it would be interesting to have a note regarding edibility in the caption.

If you enter the entry, if it is complete then there will be a note regarding the edibility of said species.

I would be very careful about eating something on the say so of a website, even one as good as this. One photo to make an identification is taking a very big risk.

Re: Improving our Fungi Resource Centre

Hallo,

looking a bit through the gallery of Fungi A-Z I recognized some pictures where I'm not convinced about the correctness of determination. Is there an interest to collect such critical remarks and where are they to mail/post?

thanks and best regards,
Andreas

Welcome on board Andreas. There is another thread Fungi A to Z Alerts and yes we need to know that the photos there are as accurate as possible. Just be gentle some of us don't take criticism too well

I try, of course. All "criticism" are only proposals, so I hope it hurts not too much.

best regards,
Andreas

Re: Improving our Fungi Resource Centre

As Mal pointed out above the latest attempt to provide the facility sought by Andreas can be found within the following thread:

Fungi A to Z Alerts

Unfortunately because previous similar threads were moved to obscurity and because they have a tendency to ramble off topic, which together with the restrictions now placed on the volunteer editors, their effectiveness has become somewhat diluted.

Please continue to announce any anomalies and all effort will be made to correct entries in the A to Z.

It should also be pointed out yet again that the A to Z was originally set up in such a fashion to enable any member to use both the create and edit facility for any entry.

David.

David.
The restrictions were put in place due to some members wrongly editing species.

I will happily amend any entries placed in the A to Z alerts.

John

In the early days of the A to Z any mis-editing was easily rectified by reference to the entry history and the volunteer editors were on top of it. Sadly this no longer applies because access to the history has been removed leaving a keen handful of volunteers feeling ineffective and undervalued.

David, I can only suggest you raise this issue again with Stu.

Cheers mate, I will do that, yet again, and until such time as Stu reinstates the full facilities I'll leave you to deal with the anomalies that are currently appearing on the A to Z Alerts thread courtesy of Andreas; I am finding the restrictions too limiting to deal with them effectively.

Good luck

David
